Dear Friends,

The Ranchos de Taos Neighborhood Association, a 501(c)(3), is dedicated to preserving our neighborhood's rich historical heritage and fostering a strong sense of community. Through vibrant cultural events such as last year's Matanza, celebrating our deep history with annual cards, and keeping the community informed with current announcements and news, we strive to cultivate a spirit of unity and pride among our residents.

We are so proud that, thanks to the substantial community effort and collaboration with the county, the Neighborhood Association successfully secured the official designation of Las Comunidades del Valle de los Ranchos as a Traditional Historic Community in 2022 through a county ordinance, as stipulated by the New Mexico statute. This designation safeguards our area from potential annexation by the town of Taos.

The Neighborhood Association’s role extends beyond cultural programs to active civic engagement. Our annual meetings, featuring reports from county commissioners, provide a platform for open dialogue and transparency, allowing residents to stay informed about important issues that directly affect our community and county. We are also committed to preserving our neighborhood's character and quality of life, as demonstrated when we successfully opposed Family Dollar's proposal to locate in an inappropriate and unsafe site, protecting our community’s unique charm, identity, and safety.

Only 12 months after receiving this designation, the Neighborhood Association faced a significant challenge when the town of Taos attempted to encroach on our territorial integrity through an illegal annexation—the first such challenge in the 29-year history of Traditional Historic Communities in New Mexico. When the county was unable to react quickly and defend the ordinance, the Neighborhood Association acted swiftly and efficiently. We engaged attorney Frank Coppler, who provided expert legal counsel. His persuasive legal arguments, along with the testimony of our dedicated residents, led the town council to deny the annexation by a 3-1 vote.

Due to these unforeseen legal expenses, the Neighborhood Association now faces a significant budget shortfall. To continue our vital work and expand our impact, your support is crucial. Your generous donation will directly contribute to sustaining our programs, organizing community events, and advocating for the interests of our neighborhood. Every dollar you give strengthens our ability to serve the community effectively and preserve our cherished way of life.

Please contribute and join us in preserving our historical heritage, promoting community engagement, and safeguarding the future of Las Comunidades del Valle de los Ranchos Traditional Historic Community. Together, we can ensure that our neighborhood remains a vibrant and thriving place for generations to come.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission!

 Warm regards,

The Board Members of the Ranchos de Taos Neighborhood Association
